Fourteen years ago there was a dozen or so bikers that got together for a ride,
and donated toys and food baskets to a few local families. This past year (2006)
we had 4829 bikes and 22 cars ride in the procession. We have bikers coming
down from Farmington, Taos, Las Vegas and Santa Fe. They come up from
Las Crusas, El Paso and even a few have ridden in from Clovis.
The last four years, Earl and his crew from Antelope Creek leathers
have made the drive from Borger, Texas just north of Amarillo.
In just the last three years alone, the bikers have contributed 6,438 pounds
of non-perishable food items , $87,295.00 worth of toys and stuffed animals
and $5,260.00 cash, which was donated to non profits such as Haven House,
Care-net Pregnancy Center, Rio Rancho Independent High School,
Abrazo’s Family support services, C.A.S.A. for Children, St. Felix Pantry,
and St. Vincent of Paul. With the help of Christian Motorcycle Assoc,
Victory Riders Chapter we were able to identify and distribute toys and food
baskets to 20 families.
The remaining toys collected were distributed to Rio Rancho DPS,
Bernalillo Police and Sandoval County Sheriff to be distributed through
out their jurisdictions. Toys also went to the Italian American Association
which throws a party for local 200 kids picked out by the school system.
We are proud to announce in 2006 the Rio Rancho toy run was established
as a 501 c 3 non profit organization.
On behalf of myself and the committee we would like to thank Mayor Jackson,
the City of Rio Rancho and our sponsors for their generous support of
the toy run every year.
